How much free storage on 16″ M4 Pro 512GB (MX2U3)?

iirc my M3 Max had around 390 or something , but it must've already downloaded some stuff from icloud at that point.
You will probably have about 375 GB of free space, maybe a little more. I have several apps installed, along with a couple of VMs. I am only using 200GB out of my 1TB. I don't store a lot of movies or pictures. I do have about 3K songs on the machine.
512 will probably suit you fine. If you need more space, get an external drive for storage. One from OWC, TB5, 1TB is not much more than the "Apple Tax" and will perform as well as internal storage.

I have the 16" base M4 Pro. I have 136 GB free. Most of my files and photos are stored on a Transcend 1TB Jetdrive Lite. I live and travel in rural areas where wifi may be just a silly word so having that storage function as "internal" using my SD slot has been awesome.
