That's normal.

If you want/need more space you can erase the printer drivers you don't need. Apple throws in a whole bunch of printer drivers that take up about 4GB of space so that users can "plug and play" their printers.

To delete the drivers you don't need, navigate to:
Macinotsh HD > Library > Printers

In there you will see different folders with printer manufacture names. Erase what you don't need and you will free up lots of HD space.
 
Normal. I recommend clean install of os x with the install disks it came with. Customize it so you only install stuff you want.
