I am gonna buy the iPad 3 when it comes out and I was wondering how much is tax on it. Lets say the iPad 3 is gonna be $500, how much would the tax be on that. Btw, I live in california.

As a consumer item, in most states the sales tax would be $500 x the tax rate. In Virginia, it would be $500 x 5% or $25.00. California's rate is probably 7% or higher. By the way, in 2013, we will start paying sales tax on Amazon purchases as they are building a distribution center here.

And in the UK....Wait for it...20% V.A.T.

Horrendous.

The MacBook pro I'm eyeing is £400 cheaper in the US (including US sales tax).

£400.
£400.

I shall be buying my 2012 MacBook pro in the US and shipping it over with bundlebox.

The 32gb wifi iPad is around £75 cheaper in the US.
Bleh.

Really? You start a thread about your local sales tax rather than Googling it?

They'll ship it out of state and than back again, still no tax.

In the UK the 20% VAT is in addition to duty (depending on what the it is) + you pay tax on the shipping costs too!

iPad and iPhone only attract VAT but I believe HMRC created a specific duty rate for iPods
