All year I have been planning on buying an iMac at the end of this year, and, of course, I don't want to buy one JUST before they are upgraded.

I looked around (mainly on this site) and everything seems to be pointing towards Macworld 09.

If this is the case, and iMacs are announced just say on the 9th of January, how much longer after that will they be hitting the shelves?

Thanks!

They'll probably announce immediate availability.

The two other possibilities are
2) No announcement (for several weeks or more)
3) Announcement, but no availability for a few weeks.

I agree, though, that 1 is most likely, because it's likely to me a modest speed bump, not a radical revision, so there won't be the situation where they're waiting to get things fully up to speed.
