Well I bought my standard mid 2012 13 inch in March of 2013 and upgraded it within 6 months.

Crucial 16 GB Ram 118.61

Total: $1498.55

I bought AppleCare a year later for 186.00 from B&H photo.

That brings my total to $1584.85 so it wasn't a bad deal in the end. I really love it!
