Besides YouTube (which the client on the iPhone addresses anyway), what other sites would I sorely miss because the iPhone lacks Flash? I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Are there any other functions that utilize Flash that would impact my use of the iPhone?

Is it a genuine problem or an overyhyped minor one?

Nothing comes to mind for me, maybe some flash games would be nice sometimes.

I think it's a major negative - for instance, no UK user can access any BBC programming on iPlayer, and no US user will be able to access Hulu.

And the YouTube interface in iPhone is pretty absymal, so flash in Safari would be a signifcant improvement there too (though granted, just making the search options not rubbish would do much the same).

Also worth noting for example, that the major two sites that annoy me are the O2 website itself - many parts of which fundamentally require Flash - and the Sky+ website to activate remote record, which is again built in Flash.

90% of flash is ads, the rest is slow to load promotional sites, glad its not there to be honest, plus it boosts both iphone dev and real Internet standards without it.

Though occasionally it's nice to not have flash, I would like to view websites I've built and every once in a while watch some toons on homestarrunner.com. I personally would love to have flash, but it's not a HUGE negative for me.

The only thing that bugs me about it being missing is that I can't watch TV episodes for free on the network sites. I have to pay to buy them from iTunes, if they're available. That bites. Other than that, I don't really miss it.

Wow very surprising replies! Overwhelmingly positive support for NOT having Flash, I never expected that response. Than again I still can't think of a site that I personally use that relies on it, and I am a heavy web user.

A site that's entirely comprised of a Flash movie is usually relegated to music artist websites. However, if a site does this, most will offer an "HTML version," which may or may not have all the features. I refuse to browse a Flash-comprised site whether it be on a mobile handheld or a desktop computer, so this doesn't really affect me.

The biggest area I encounter this issue is with embedded video clips in blogs or pages. Sometimes I'll encounter a site that has its header/navigation menus in Flash and has no fallback. All I know is that if Flash performed on the iPhone in the same way it performs on Mac OS X, I'm more than glad that it's not on the iPhone.

I really wish the iPhone had flash! I am a big myspace user, and I can't view anything on myspacetv or view pages or songs on my friends profiles. Also, as my friend points out daily... you can't watch videos on porn sites, LOL!!!

a lot of people bitch about no flash.

i've had my phone since day 1 and i've never needed flash to be honest.

and if Safari crashes quite a bit as it is, just imagine it with a flash page.

let me tell you about flash. It is so obnoxious that I and many other people use plugins for our browsers to disable it so we can be free from stupid adds and sites designed by idiots that use it for basic functionality that could have been implemented with other million times more effecient technologies.

Some websesigners thoughtless adoption of flash really pisses me off some times. Thank god RSS has emerged as a lightweight solution to getting quick updates and news.

the only thing that really sucks to me about not having flash is almost every site that streams video uses flash. It would be cool to be able to see more streaming video bit thats about it.

Why are the fanboys all saying they "love" that its not on the phone? Man you can buy something and still ADMIT it has faults you know!

I want flash so sites will work 100% like they should! But honestly it's no big deal if its not there. However, I'm not going to pretend that apple is doing great things by cutting features, I can understand it may not be feasible for a device of this processing power though.

I don't really miss it much at all. And reading some of the posts above, it might be more of a fault than a feature
