how much performance would I used with 8gb of ram

I just got a mac pro 2.66ghz machine and it has 3x2gb DDR3. I am thinking of putting another 2gb DDR3 stick into the machine, but that will change the setup from tri channel to dual channel memory. How much of a performance hit would I take???

Negligible. If would gain more from having more RAM.

It depends on your type of work you do on your Mac. If you do heavy video editing, 3D work that might make a huge difference. For Graphic design, difference is not so great; at least on my end.
