I have a 15in Late 2008, MBP (the first generation of Unibody) with 2.53Ghz (upgraded CPU speed) with 4GB of RAM. Will my laptop recognize 8GB of RAM and which RAM from Newegg should I get?

Officially 4GB is the Max in the late 2008, early 09, MBP. I have the 2.53 bought in Feb 09 and have 6GB which runs fine. You have to be careful about what RAM because the are very picky. I bought mine from OWC, macsales, and they worked with me until we found out that the Hynix would not work and they shipped me Micron RMA and that worked.

According to MacTracker, toxic is right. The machine can handle up to 6GB of RAM, but Apple only recommends a maximum of 4. I repair MBPs and haven't seen any major problems with either 4 or 6GB of RAM in those machines.
