How much space is left on 8 gb iPhones?

I've seen people with 16gb airs have only 8 gb space left.... So how much usable space do people with 8 gb phones have? I'm curious.
 
Someone wrote in another thread that iOS 8 needs 6 GB of space. Whether that is true, I am unsure.
 
It still apparently takes up 1.1 gb extra space in the end (The update amount) for no really good reason other then ios8 is a space hog.
