Hi, I'm thinking about buying a $429 2017 iPad.. My question: is the tax included in the $429 or do I have to pay extra tax on apple store? If so, how much?

Texas sales tax is 8% so your total would be $465

For future reference, whenever you see a price advertised in the USA, this does not ever include tax .

The only way to avoid paying the tax is by buying from an online retailer that doesn't collect tax in your state, and have it shipped. For example, you can see a few listed here

@dmx There's one more way, actually. The other way to avoid paying tax is to rob the store.

I got mine from B&H. No sales tax outside of NY or NJ. Free 2-day shipping too. And I got mine way before even Apple said they would ship. I don't work for B&H. Live in TN. Just trying to help.
