Guy has one for sale for 200, how much to fix myself with quality parts?

Apple were going to charge £180 for a 5s cracked screen, instead, a sub £40 screen from Ebay, £10 worth of Maplin precision tools, a 12 minute YouTube video and 30 bum squeaky minutes of tinkering later... One perfectly working iPhone... Phew!!!

Yeah but I'd this something I can do myself? Probably not...

Its quite easy to do it by yourself, look at the tutorials, couple of screws and some cable, I know cause i've done it.

But the quality of the screen is not the same, since no one can ever procure these spare parts officially (made to the same spec).

Please people, do not even think about paying Apples ridiculous price.

On ebay, you can buy the screen and swap it over yourself its very easy.

Over here a screen costs around £30 which is about $52 which is cheap compared to that stupid $269

Screens are about $45 on ebay now. I buy them all the time and never had any problems.

The 5s shouldn't be out of warranty though. It hasn't been a year since its release.

out of warranty just means something that is not covered under the standard manufacture warranty. Basically if you own a 5s without applecare+ it cost $269 to replace the phone whether it is within the first year or not.

I think you have to look and see how deep the crack is. I think the digitizer is so close to the screen that both are likely to break, which cost a lot more than just a screen.
