Hey All,

I just got the iphone 12 mini and according to different sites, the useable free storage on the phone should be 50gb for the 64gb model.

However, my phne shows only 44gb available. I did not download any apps or use any storage at all. Set up as a brand new device. No pics, no songs nothing at all. What could be going on?

Do you have iCloud photos enabled? It could be downloading stuff.

Have you tried checking Settings - General - iPhone Storage to see what's using up the space?

Personally my mini says 6.95GB being used by the system with another 7.2GB of ‘other’ things. This ‘other’ category fluctuates significantly for me. It says it includes caches and logs. I know it keeps pending OS updates in that category prior to installs too.

Hi

I see:

System: 11.26 gb
Other: 2.5 gb
ios 14.2.1: 1.45 gb

Do these numbers and subsequently the free storage vary for each user?

System seems unusually high. That used to be around 3-5 GB on older firmware for me and then went up to around 6-7 GB ever since iOS 13. Maybe your device is currently in the process of updating?

Other fluctuates quite a lot. I've seen mine use as much as 50 GB (on a 512 GB iPad) although 5-10 GB is more typical. I guess iOS may not be too aggressive at clearing out caches if you device has lotsa storage.

Have you deleted the pre-installed apps? Cause those take up a few GB as well. I always delete Garageband, etc. on my iOS devices.

That sounds in the ball park. My original SE (64GB) had something close to that out of the box. Wait until your account is done indexing and then take a look at Settings > General > About. Also, take a look at iCloud storage.
