I was brand new to AT&T when I got the 3G S in June last year. How much will a new iPhone cost me if I do not want to extend my contract at all? Also, how much would it cost me if I did not care about extending my contract more? Thanks!

no commitment: 599 US dollars (lets see if anyone gets that (small)joke, cough, happened in 2005)

w/ 2yr: $199/$399

(Prices are for 16GB)

w/o extending
16gb $599
32gb $699

if you're eligible for an upgrade and want to extend
16gb $199
32gb $299

not eligible, but still want to upgrade and want to extend
16gb $399
32gb $499

I called *639# and got a message saying I may qualify on 02/22/2011. Does this mean my entry price for iPhone 4 is $400?

You SHOULD be eligible for the 399/499 early upgrade price. I talked to an ATT representative and she said each iPhone user is allowed 1 early upgrade discount per 18 months. So since the 3GS was your first phone, you should be able to use that and get the 4G for 399/499...

But this is coming from an ATT representative, so it could also be absolute ********..
