There's a possibility one of our older machines at my office is going to be upgraded, which means I might be buying it. I checked out what they are going for on eBay, but prices all over the place, plus the ones I found were refurbs with damage in some cases.

The machine is a 17" 1.83 Ghz CoreDuo iMac, 1.5 Gigs of RAM, 160 Gig HD, CD/DVD drive, airport card, new aluminum keyboard, OS 10.4. The machine is in decent shape, but it does get run 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.

I was thinking $350-400, but some input would be appreciated.

I'm guessing this is a G5? In that case it would be more than 400, probably around over 500.

If you're buying it off them then they obviously want you to do them a favour and get rid of it for them without having the hassles of finding a buyer and they'll likely want to do you a favour too by giving you a good deal on it. I'd offer them what would be a good price (for you) on eBay. So the lower end of what you've discovered.

My girlfriend has this computer, and it's a pretty good performer for her needs (just basic internet and light photoshop, etc). I would say it's worth around $400, but try offering a little lower and see what happens. I wouldn't pay more than $500, though, as it's about 3 years old at this point.

mac2sell says $440, so I was thinking $375 or so. Thanks!

I have this same machine and I plan on trying to sell it this summer/fall. When I sell it am I required to wipe out all information and programs, or can I leave Office on it to entice potential buyers? Thanks for the mac2sell link, I haven't seen that one before.

Oh yeah, anyone want to buy this iMac:
1.83 Ghz, 160 GB, 2 MB RAM, CoreDuo, Office, Leopard, iLife '08

It's been a GREAT computer for the past 3 1/2 years. Not one single problem with it ever. I'm switching to a laptop this summer though and won't need the iMac.
