How often do you buy the latest version of an iphone? And why do you upgrade? Just for fun? Because your old model breaks?

I haven't bought the latest version of an iPhone, yet.

I got the iPhone 4 like 3 months before the iPhone 5 came out, but I wasn't properly educated on release dates back then. So ~2 years.

This September, however, I plan to purchase an iPhone 6 because my 4 is on its last legs.

I buy on cycle, though this year was a little different. I tried a Nokia phone, and to get back on the iOS platform, I bought a 5C full price, but that was done so I can buy the 6 on contract.

My first iphone upgrade was 2 years (3gs to 4S), but I didn't see the 5S enough of an upgrade for me (as the 4S is fine still).

I will be upgrading when it happens. Most likely to the 4.7 version if two models get released.

To be honest I could stick with the 4S, but the speed of the hand me down 3GS that the wife has is starting to show a bit - so best I upgrade for marital harmony.

Is anyone on a 5 or 5S/C going to upgrade?

I have a 5S, my wife a 5. I am probably upgrading to a 6 and handing my 5S to my wife. Her 5 is going to our daughter. So, in a sense, I am upgrading, but the contract is remaining for the other phones, and they will still be in use.

I tend to do so every two years, I used to get itchy feet and upgrade early during the last 3 months of my contract but was really happy with my last phone and am with my 5c so will likely hold out as long as I can fit a decent deal!

Always hard tho when researching the shiny new phones as you just want to do it!

I do so much research into an upgrade practically 4-5 months before upgrade time! Lol

Upgrade through contract? Every year. If I'm forced to pay $450 per line in subsidies either way, I might as well get an iPhone out of it.

I might break the cycle this year though since now, I'm saving $80 per month if I don't upgrade. :p

I've hopped around a bit, but now I'm alternating between my dad's upgrade and my upgrade and getting a new phone every year. Every 2 years I give my old one to him when I use his upgrade.

2007 - Original 1 week after launch
2009 - 3GS Pre-order
2010 - 4 pre-order
2012 - 5 pre-order
2013 - 5s launch day order

I plan to order whenever I can for a 5.5" 6

Every year, because I love new tech. I sell the old model to offset the cost and renew my contract with the new model. It's like an early Christmas present to myself every year.

Will definitely upgrade from my IP5. At the moment I'm being seriously tempted by the LG G3 but I'm trying to hold out for the IP6.

I used to upgrade every 6 months~1 year but that was before I was satisfied with iPhone and decided to just stick with it. I'm trying to discipline myself to upgrade every 2-3 years now.

Is anyone on a 5 or 5S/C going to upgrade?

I have a 5s, and I'm planning to buy the 6. But I normally buy a new iPhone each year. However, I typically wait until the frenzy dies down before I place my order (I don't need the 6 the day it launches).

I got the 4s when it came out (a few months after)
I got the 5 when it came out (launch day)
I got the 5s when it came out (launch day)

.....then I realized I didn't need the 5s cause my 5 was perfectly fine. I gave my wife my upgrade.

We have 2 lines on our account and back when VZW offered 1-year contracts, I went ahead and paid the extra $70 to put my wife on a 1-year. Now she's on 2-year (obviously) but we're staggered in that every year (in September nonetheless!) one of our two lines is eligible.

It used to be that each iteration came with must-have features... but now that the smartphone market is reaching maturation, I don't think we'll see the same large-leap features that we used to see with each release.

It's nice to know, however, that I can upgrade every year if I so desire!

So far my iPhone history has been original iPhone unlocked to use on mobile, skipped 3G, but have had 3GS, 4, 4s, 5 and 5s. Now that my phone plan doesn't have a built in subsidy I don't have to worry about on contract purchase I will continue to purchase a new iPhone every year but will switch to carrier unlocked versions.
