I wanted to upgrade this year from my 15" late-2016 Touch Bar model but because Apple didn't release an AS 16" model I'll stick to mine for one more year. I'm also waiting for more software to be compatible with the M1 (like Photoshop for AS rolling out in 2021).
What do you guys think?

Normally, whenever I needed to. but at the moment I have no big desire to do any upgrades now, the 2018 15" keeps me semi happy. I was thinking a new mac mini but a few of the limitations killed it for me ( really a mini desktop I cant hook 3 screens to? )

I might see what comes out later and keep an eye on real world use of the M1's, but work wise im shifted to Epyc/Threadrippers. and nothing is forcing me to upgrade anything else.

Depends a lot for me. I kept (and used almost daily) my 2011 MBP17 for <checks notes> 7 years.

I have a 2018 MBP15 that I haven’t used for a while (using a 2018 Mini now as my daily machine). I think the upgrade pattern for people depends a lot on a variety of factors.

If I used mine all the time (ie didn’t have the mini) I’d probably be planning to upgrade in the next 12 months - mostly just because dealing with faults outside AppleCare is not fun (I literally have left over spare fans for my 2011 that I ordered from Hong Kong, sitting in the drawer of my desk).

Actually I have some Macs: 1 iMac-27-2019 (new), MacbookPro15-2012 (2n hand) and MacbookPro13-2012 (2n hand). I am not a Professional, so I do not change them often, but if I could, I upgrade them a little (more Ram/SSD etc). Only when a new OS offers special and practical features, I change equipments. Now, I have the 3 macs on MacOS Catalina, they are capable of Airplay to listen music on external baffles, Airdrop for file interchanges, they are enough powerfull for my usual tasks, they have enough Ram ... so I think I am not a buyer for years. The only Exception could be, if I decide to own only ONE hardware+monitor, and be absolutely minimalist.
