Firstly yes I know there are tools out there to fix this... BUT why is there not a bigger fuss about this. 500gb of system data is an outrageous amount to get filled up without the user filling it up.

How are apple not fixing this!

Imagine buying anything - and then only getting half the stated size/amount...

That isn't all "system" data.

Want to see what it REALLY is?
Here's how:
=========
Download DiskWave from here:
It's small in size and free.

Open DiskWave and go to the preferences.
Put a checkmark in "show invisible files".
Close preferences.

The DiskWave window shows you all your volumes and drives in plain English (no ridiculous graphical formats).
Click on any item "on the left".
Now, you'll see what's ON the volume, listed in order of "largest to smallest".
You can easily locate what's eating up your space.

yeh no I get that there's software out there... but why do I need additional software. Isn't the whole point of have a operating system is to manage this all... Feels like a blatant push to move people to iCloud.

500GB sounds weird, I looked into my settings and between the OS and system files, it's less than 40GB.

Unless I'm misunderstanding.

nope - os is around what your saying. So I've got to the bottom of this

No surprises what software to blame and apologise to Apple.

Adobe - never fails to amaze me how **** Adobe software is. 470 GBs of caches files! One day a software company will come along and knock Adobe of their perch...

Holy crap. That's sadly, unsurprising out of Adobe. I've been running into issues, where whenever I try to save in Photoshop, PS will screech to a stop and toss up the spinning wheel for 30-45sec (the rest of my Mini is completely unaffected).

As to a competitor, I know (and helped kickstart) Stuart Semple's Abode project. It's looking like it's going to try and be a 1:1 replacement for the Adobe suite.

I'm going to guess that you could simply delete these "en masse", without problems.
No promises.

I have the same thing, 373.24GB of "system data". Thankfully, I have a large drive, but what is going on?

And no, I don't have any Adobe stuff...

All the data inside the Libraries folders is "System Data", so for example Steam games are "System Data" because they are installed inside Library/Application Support… you can use something like GrandPerspective to check what's actually using the space.
