I'm debating on whether to get the new 2.4 mb or getting a refurbished 2.4 mbp for about $1300 from apple. I'm a film student and use PC for now so I use Premiere, but would switch over to final cut. Are the new macbooks able to run final cut? Or would I be better off getting the refurbished pro? Thanks.

I run Final Cut Express on my early 2008 2.4GHz MacBook (with Intel GMA X3100 chip) and with 4GB RAM slotted in it runs FCE pretty well. Admittedly sometimes rendering takes a while but most of the time if you're fiddling with video clips it runs perfectly well.

I do a TV degree so FCE does get put through its paces every so often, but it always pulls through and often a lot faster than some of my Windows using friends, even though their machines are equipped with faster GPUs and occasionally faster CPUs too.
