I m one that absolutely does not want any of my files or data located on the cloud for security and snooping. Apple seems to be getting too involved in controlling/monitoring our every day activities, like fb and google, and that's why I dropped those accounts. I prefer to do my work on a local machine with local drives for storage

can someone tell me why my paranoia is not justified?

I to am feeling cloud stuff is getting hack and operators aren't taking seriously usernames/passwords security.

If you really feel paranoid get two shareware programs. The fist one I urge is Little Snitch and one can think about it as a reverse firewall.

The second shareware program (especially for the really paranoid) for Mac Books Mac Book Pros is Espionage.

Lastly for a good free robust firewall is built into OS X but doesn't gave a GUI, only command line. So the free GUI programs (for Advanced users) is IceFloor and/or NoobProof (for not so advanced users).
