With my last MB I had XP SP3 on via bootcamp. it was OK but it still sucked when I needed to switch back and forth between OS X and XP. So I sold the MP and bought my MBP and decided to run Parallels 5 and Win 7.
Im having 2 problems. 1 being a huge one. I can NOT get internet connection on the VM. I posted a thread, Tried ideas from countless people (most just being repeats of what other people in the same thread said over and over) and I got nothing. So i basically gave up on that.
the next problem was the one game I was trying to play. im not a big gamer at all but 1 of the 2 games I do love to play is Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun. When I installed this on the VM it is SUPER choppy and sluggish. I tried everything I could. Messed with RAM allocation, everything and nothing made the game run smooth. At this point i dont know if the game is just too old to run on 7, if its something with the VM of somthing with the, ehh, lets say not so legit copy of 7...
Really the only other thing I use windows for is the Pen testing utilities like GFI LanGuard. Well with the network not working those programs are useless.
So I have decided to go back to what I did with my first MB and just install XP on a small partition. The only thing is with my last MB I just had a 500 GB HDD so I made a nice partition even though I wasnt going to use all of it. I think it was like 120GB. With my new MBP I have an 80GB SSD so partition size has to be small.
MS says it has to be a min of 2GBs for the install. Do you think I will be safe with something as small as 6 or 8GB for the XP partition? I just don't know if HP would Run ****** with a small partition. I dont think it would but I dont want to go through the whole install to find out that something a little bigger would help. Basically I need room for the 2GB of XP files and maybe 3GBs for the one game (c&c) and a small handful of really small programs.
What do you guys think? no problems with the small partition? thanks for any insight!
