How sturdy is mute switch

i got a tech 21 case for my new 7. It's all TPU with the exception of the bit around the mute switch. I decided it wasn't for me and removed it starting with the bottom 2 corners. When I got to the top it had pulled on the mute switch. Normally I wouldn't think twice about this but since that part was hard plastic and not TPU I was concerned. Can the mute switch take a beating?
