How sturdy is the ipad?

I will be taking mine to school everyday... it seems to me the thicker one would have been sturdier... either way... exactly how sturdy is the ipad?

I can't speak for the new one, but I put my iPad 1 into my backpack and it survives the commute into work (taking the subway) without any problems.

As long as it's in a case, I don't see a reason for concern. I carry mine to work with me every day, and I bike to work so it's not like it has a feather ridden journey. Most of the cases I use only cover the back portion of the iPad, but I carry it in a zipped bag so I can carry the accessories too.
