Hi, I have a d-link router and an external drive attached to it. I can mount the drive with smb://ip-address. Anyone knows how to access this over the internet? Thanks.

By default, it won't be accessible over the Internet since it's on a private (local) network. The config will vary from device to device, but generally what you have to do it enable port forwarding. When you try to access it over the Internet over whichever port you choose, it'll forward those requests to the IP of the drive. There may be config needed for both your router, as well as your cable modem or DSL box.

I would start by doing a Google search for the model # of your router, with "port forwarding." That should give you an idea of where to start.
