How to access emails while offline

Hi, i've a gmail account synced via IMAP on my iPhone and my iPad and can't figure out how to full download all the emails, of last month for instance, using the default mail app.

One way would be to go to your Gmail account directly, and set it up to forward all your emails to iCloud email. After that, you can do with them what you please; they'll be backed up in iCloud.
