I've noticed that the only thing that can really output 5.1 is DVD player and some quicktime trailers. I've been digging around on the forums here and have found no solution. in Audio Midi Setup I can't configure my Z-5500's to default as multi channel audio through optical (Its greyed out). If I were to get a sound card for my mac pro, would this fix the problem? Something like this

I want to be able to play 5.1 games and rip my 5.1 audio discs to the computer in addition to the DVDs I can already play.

If I rip as .ac3 it works in VLC. No solution for iTunes so far. If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated.
