I purchased a brand new iPhone 2g that has never been activated. I'd like to do so yet all I get is the iTunes activation screen without an ability to proceed.

I'm sure somehow my current iTunes version is the wrong one.

I have a SIM adaptor and am running my iPhone5 sim in this original iPhone, so that shouldn't be the issue.

Has anyone had luck with what I am attempting to accomplish?
I think it would be nostalgic to operate an iPhone just like we did back in August of 2007.

(I have an older black MacBook without iTunes installed if that device would be helpful with this project.)

You can't ligitimately activate an iPhone 2G anymore. Apple/AT&T/O2 no longer have the activation servers for them running. You can only activate them via a hackitvate. Also, once you restore to something higher than 1.1.3, you can never go back to iOS 1.0. Because of this, I suggest keeping it at 1.0 to maintain its uniqueness.

Thanks.
I wouldn't update to any later firmware, but honestly would love to have this one up and running as if it was launch day.

I will look into hacktivate, but truly was hoping for something legit/authentic.

I don't think you can hacktivate iOS 1.0. You could try giving AT&T a call. They may activate it for you somehow.

So, your saying you did the dumbest thing ever, by opening the box?! :0

I hear you brother, but the box was opened, so no harm- no foul.
I'm only into it for a couple of hundred bucks, so not worried.

I've googled around and sadly, so far, I think everyone's correct in my inability to activate through a legitimate source/method.
