How to activate/jailbreak an iphone 2g? help needed!

I bought an old iphone from a friend, and restored the iphone. I got a new sim-card for it, inserted it, and plugged it into iTunes. But now when i try to activate it, it keeps saying unable to active iphone at this time. How do i bypass this error? or can i just activate it/unlock it some other way? Thanks!

Download the last IPSW available for the original iPhone:

Run pwnagetool on the IPSW file you just downloaded:

http://www.yourdailymac.net/downloads/PwnageTool_4.3.3.dmg

In iTunes, plug in the iPhone. Hold down option on a Mac or shift in Windows, and click Restore. Select the IPSW file that pwnagetool made, and the iPhone will restore, and will reboot activated and jailbroken.

Hactivate the phone with redsn0w to by pass this with itunes.
