Hello every one.

i bought an used iphone from canada, where my friend used FIDO carrier, he used about 1 year.

I have att sim card here, when i insert sim and connect to itunes , i see activation screen but its asking $20 per month data paln, is their any way to simply activate my iphone with out the data plan ?

iphone 2g 8gb...its asking $20 text plan to activate....i bought this phone ..even though its used, its almost like new..i am so excited but unable to use it..help..me
 
thanks for the link, if i follow the instructions will i be able to unlock my phone and after then can i update to OS 3.0 with out any problems ?

That is for 3.0
Like I said, read the entire thing, and all your questions will be answered. Just a short, keep an eye out on that blog, don't update your firmware until they give the green light.

I have an unlocked 2G on AT&T as well.

you will need to unlock your iphone, which is easily done following the instructions described in the link upstairs.
Generally, a 2G iphone is unlocked in these steps:
1. download PwnageTool 3.0 from the Dev Team site
2. download iphone 3.0 firmware (.ipsw) by connecting iphone to itunes 8.2, or in file sharing community
3. Create the modified firmware using the files downloaded above
4. Put iphone in DFU mode, and restore iPhone in itunes using the custom firmware. You may get errors in itunes, but will succeed with a few more tries
5. Bootneuter should load automatically upon reboot, and will unlock your phone
6. Put in new SIM and you're ready to go

The Dev Team blog may be slightly confusing if you've never unlocked before, especially now with their different flavors of snows, none of which apply to the 2G iphone. Basically, you want to download a version of PwnageTool that matches your firmware version, i.e., PwnageTool 3.0 unlocks OS 3.0. Once your iphone is unlocked, you can update through iTunes as you wish and the phone will stay unlocked.
Easiest will be to just download and modify 3.0, and update.
 
i called at&t people they told me to take nearest at&t shop to activate. so if i take will they do it with out any data plans for free to my existing at&t number ?
 
was this tool Pwnage for windows ..i am unable to open in windows, how to create modified firmware ?

unitil now what i have done was,i have restored iphone to factory original settings and update firmware to 3.0 using itunes, by holding the home button while connecting to computer.

Good news is, that may be easier for you. Download the Windows version.
 
omg...i used redsnow 0.72..and followed the instrunctions to enter int DFW mode, instead of entering into dfw mode it displayed a message, now phone is not at all switched on, i cant the screen at all..what happened...?
 
your phone did not enter into DFW mode search google on how to enter DFW mode.. now i cant lit up my screen. ..what to do now..was my phone dead?
 
i tried connected to pc many times..atlast i am able to see restore option, so i again pressed restore option..its restoring to factory default settings with os3.0

Try putting it into DFU again. In DFU you wont see anything on the screen just so you know. When your done, of course. I need to sleep, so hopefully someone can pick up if the problem still persist.
