How to appear offline in iPad FB app?

I don't use the FB chat feature and don't want to be shown as online when on FB. How do I close the chat box and go offline in the app?

The newest version of the app -- released today -- puts you offline by default. But you still can't hide the chat box and scroll the news feed at the same time.
