Hey guys

When i first got the iPhone 3GS i had to pay an activation fee. Will i have one again if i get the iPhone 4S? Could i just call customer care and get it waived?

Dial *639# first, and see what it says about the activation fee.

If there is one, you could try to call them. But if you haven't been with AT&T for a long time and your per line cost is under $100 before taxes/fees, they won't waive it.

Thanks. It says $18 upgrade fee. I'm paying $128 for the family plan with 2 lines. Can I call ATT before i even order the phone? After I preorder?

You can call anytime you want to. The $18 activation fee shows up on the next monthly bill. But like I said, they won't be inclined to waive your fee if you're paying under $100 per line. Currently you're paying about $64 per line.

most of the time, i upgrade my phone when my contract ends, then i get the free activation fee.

My 2 year contract ended 3 months ago. I have leverage. and yes 18 bucks for two phones is expensive. thats 40 bucks.

When I bought my iPhone 4 at an Apple Store, I was charged an $18 upgrade fee and an $18 activation fee. I went home, called ATT and asked (nicely) them to remove both as I feel the fees are excessive. They balked, I said I was returning the phone and canceling my new contract as I pay you $80 a month with no discounts. They ended up giving me a $45 credit on my next bill.

Just ask AT&T to remove those fees. They most likely will.

18 dollars on 2 phone is 36 dollars. I don't think that's excessive. But, that's my opinion.

I am not so sure about they will remove 2 upgrade fees...

Again, every carriers charge upgrade fees. (Maybe not t-mobile, but they don't carry iPhones.)
