how to black out section of screen

I was wondering if there was an application that could black out the screen but leave a section still light?

I have a Mac-book intel (not leopard)

Well you could set the desktop to black and set the Dock to hide and hide all other apps except the one you're using. That would only leave the menu bar, but I think there may be some 3rd party apps that can hide that as well.

i was hoping to have a 4x4 light window and the rest of the screen be black.

i want to be able to black out the screen around a movie.

You could zoom in on the movie. Hold control and scroll up or down with the trackpad... you might have to activate it in System Preferences.
