Hello!
So after searching a lot of threads, I couldn’t find what I needed, so I’m starting a new one.
I’m using a macbook pro mid 2012 unibody running Catalina. I have replaced the original HDD to a SSD and the original optical bay to a second internal drive which is the original HDD that was previously on the sata bay.
Currently I have windows pro 10 via Bootcamp on this HDD that’s on the optical bay and Catalina on the SSD and everything works fine.
In order to get Windows to get faster, I’ve purchased another SSD so that I could install it on the caddy on the optical bay.
Before proceeding to open the macbook to switch the old HDD to the new SSD, I needed to clone the HDD on the SSD.
I have tried many ways to clone this: Using Macrium Reflect on the windows side, using wintousb, using easeus todo backup on the mac side, etc.
I am being able to copy everything from the HDD to the SSD but when I try to boot using the SSD externally (using a sata to usb adapter), when I turn the computer on pressing option, I can’t see the external ssd drive as a bootable option. So I’m believing that I will not be able to boot it normally if I go ahead and replace the SSD internally.
I’m aware of apps such as winclone, however it is way too expansive for me.
Does anyone know if the ssd will be able to boot internally even if it is not bootable externally after cloning with one of these free apps?
Or does anyone know if there’s something else I could do to make sure I’m not losing any data when replacing the drives?
Thanks in advance!
