How to burn an AVI or a MOV file?!?!

I have to burn a movie for a project, the .MOV file is 696MB, and the AVI file is 701MB.

I drop the files into iDVD, and it turns into 6GBs for some reason! Why is that? Is there any way at all to burn these to a DVD that I can watch on a regular DVD player?

It's converting to MPEG-2. Try lowering the quality of the file?

Thank you, I Have had Toast Titanium on my computer for a while, never thought of using it though! Thanks very much

One note. The size of the avi and mov files are irrelevant. What will matter as far as fitting them on a DVD that will play in a standard home player is the length in minutes/hours of the files. To get them both on a standard dvd, your max will be around 2 hours. 4 hours for a dual-layer.
