Here's the thing. I live in India n I have an uncle who lives in the US. What would I have to do to buy an iphone? I mean does he have to give his SSN number to the Apple guys and get the phone activated in the store itself. I dont want to do that as I will be unlocking the phone here in India. So what would be the "STEPS" to safely buy one.

Alternately, are there any safe websites from where I can order one?

Why don't you just buy it from India?

Do you have any relatives in the UK? The non-contract iPhone 3G is coming out in the UK tomorrow. You would still need a SIM adapter though to do the hardware unlock.

Well, I know that

1. 3G iPhone in the US comes lockd with AT&T. There is a SIM unlock method available, so no issues with that.

2. It comes with a 2 year contract. But I have heard that an Early Termination Fee of around 100USD can be paid to cancel the contract. Any comments on that?
