I have an email address with an error in it and every time I start to enter an address into the "to" field it will autofill. How can I edit this address or delete it altogether? I know I can edit it in the "to" spot but then next time it pops up incorrectly again.

thanks
D

I didn't know about that feature, unfortunately deleting the address with the error from this list doesn't remove it from autofilling in the "to" field - it's still there!

OK, I have solved the problem.

Thanks to those who made suggestions, especially xUKHCx, as this was the best clue. Although clearing the error from "Previous Recipients" wasn't the full answer it pointed me in the right direction. Doing a spotlight search lead me to a duplicate entry in my address book. I had checked the address book several times but since the error was buried in the dupe entry I never noticed it until I did a search using the actual spelling of the error as the search criteria - voila - I fixed that error and now it autofills correctly.

How to change/delete an email address autofill

Delete an Email Address from Auto-Complete in Mac OS X Mail

To remove an email address from the auto-complete list in Mac OS X Mail:

Start typing the recipient's address or name in a new message.
Select the desired address from the auto-complete list as if you'd compose an email to them.
Click the small down arrow in the recipient.
Select Remove from Previous Recipients List from the menu.

Deleting email addresses

Weggl-

The first two steps went fine.

1. Start typing the recipient's address or name in a new message.
2. Select the desired address from the auto-complete list as if you'd compose an email to them.

The problem is with #3, where I don't see Recipient or a down arrow.

3. Click the small down arrow in the recipient.
4. Select Remove from Previous Recipients List from the menu.
