Tried on Reddit but every post gets removed by the automod, even ios beta sub. I even followed the title guidelines (putting the beta in brackets) but it immediately removes post and there is no answer to my question on Google (no, I don't do Tiktok or Facebook but those were the only links)

iOS 26 is supposed to have the option to change the text message background (a feature I've been accustomed to with past, older Samsung phones) and while under settings-->apps-->Messages, the feature is 'enabled' but there is no way to SET a background from there or within the Messages app that I can find. Am I just doing it wrong? It's still the static white or black (depending on dark mode or light mode) bland background it's always been, and the 'conversation backgrounds' is toggled on in Settings, but tapping that offers no way to set a background.

Open up your text chain, click on the contact info for the person you're talking to, then you'll see the option for "backgrounds." You have to set them individually as far as I know.

All i get are photos, links, documents, locations, and wallet. Nothing for 'backgrounds'

Main info panel has:

Mobile number, Hide Alerts, Show in Shared with You, Show in Contacts, and Block Contact.

It's up here, maybe only for fellow iMessage users? I don't see it as an option for an Android contact I have.
