I have a static ip set up just for when im at home i can have necessary open ports accessible.
However, when i come to school, i cant use a static address, so i use an automatically assigned address.
I am wondering if there is an application that can be run automatically on startup that checks what network i am on and then change the way i obtain an ip address automatically. That way i dont have to go into my network settings every time i get to school and then again when i get home.

Thank you in advance for your help!

The easiest way to do that without an application would be to set up a manual location for when your home, and then keep the automatic location for everywhere else, like school. And its easy to switch between these from the top left apple menu.

Would be nice if we could set which location we prefer depending on what network we are connecting to though.
