Seems like an easy question? Whenever I connect to a hotspot that requires an access code, the Mac uses Safari to display a login screen and the login does not complete until www.apple.com fully loads. And www.apple.com takes a long time to load, so I'd like to change this default screen to Google, which loads very quickly.

Where is this default home page stored? And how do I change it?

By the way, this is not, of course the default home page that I can set through the Safari Preferences dialog. This is a different default home page.

Click safari in the menu bar>preferences>general. In here you can reset the homepage.
That's not what I was asking.

No matter what you set your home page to, when you login to a password-protected hotspot, Safari redirects you to www.apple.com after you enter the password. I think www.apple.com is Safari's home page default, used by the admin account. I can't figure out how to change it.

That's not the behaviour that I see.

In Safari Preferences, what is a new window set to open to?
Sounds like a new window is opening after you login to the hotspot.

What version of OS X and Safari?

My homepage is Google. This happens on iPhone as well. I've seen it many times; not if you need a WEP key but f you get redirected to a page on the router to enter a password.

Sorry. It seemed liked a simple question ...I've never experienced this, nor have I heard of it before. Have you tried the Apple support community? I was starting to think it might be network preferences, but you say it happens on your iPhone too, so I'll assume you have synced your bookmarks between the two. It's likely a setting in Safari preferences then if that's the case. I'm really curious to know what's causing this.

How to change Safari's default home page?

I think it's an app default of the browser, just as there's a system-wide default desktop wallpaper which sometimes appears.

In Windows, this would be a registry tweak. I guess it's buried in a PLIST file somewhere.
