How to change the Apple Id on Macbook Pro

A couple of months ago, I changed my Apple ID from an old email address to the present email address that I now use. The change was done successfully. However, My MacBook Pro still lists the Apple ID that refers to the old email address. The problem I'm having is that whenever I boot up my MacBook Pro, it keeps reminding me that it could not sign into Icloud. I go to Icloud in preferences where I can see that My MacBook pro has my Apple ID listed as my old email address. I try to sign out and sign in with my new credentials, but it doesn't give me the opportunity to sign in with my new Apple ID. Could someone please point me in the right direction.

Hmmm....does it let you sign out? You might sign out, and reboot the machine to see if it behaves differently.
