Hi, everytime I download something form the internet, it is automatically saved onto my desktop. I would like to set a folder and direct the downloads there to keep my desptop neat. But I could not fine the way how to set it. Please help!

You can make the change in your browser's Preferences. For example, if it's Safari you're using, open Preferences (under Safari in your menu bar) and look in the General pane – there's an option there for you to choose exactly where your downloads will be deposited, so you can create a special Downloads folder if you wish.
 
You are using Tiger I take it.

If you are using Safari, press CMD+` (or go to Safari in the Menu Bar and click Preferences).

There, you can change the download destination.
