OK, it's solved, I was too dumb.

Dear audiophiles,

Just noticed that while I have had very good success rates at troubleshooting with Windows all these years. However, almost NONE of my questions on Mac forums (not just this one) has ever been solved! I should have better luck this time, as it's a simple one.

Objective: Turn BMGs (e.g. computer games music) from my iPhone to MP3, by recording it on the iMac using Audacity.

Problem: Sound Preferences does not allow me to choose a different audio source (or I am too dumb to figure out how to).

Description: To use the iMac to record anything using line-in, it is necessary to go to Sound Preferences, select the Input tab, then ensure that the Line In device is set to "Audio line in port" (see attachment 1). However, on mine, it is set to Built-in Input (see attachment 2). And it doesn't seem as if I can change it. Double clicking it produces no effect. Nor can I right click it.

Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

Edit: I've uploaded attachments, and I saw them in the preview. But where are they now?
