how to change user administrator on mb

my friend has a 2009 Mac book. I'm thinking about buying it. She doesn't have an original disk (CD/DVD). I can sign in as a guest but.......

Need help.

Boot into single user mode by hold command-s at start, then follow this process.

Sounds fishy. You can just have her logon, go to system preferences, and add a new user while deleting the old one.
