I've recently become a little more paranoid of DNS hijacking especially as i use online banking regularly.

I know OS X did have something built in to prevent this hijacking but i'm still looking for ways to ensure it is the banks web site i'm logging into and not a carbon copy of it hosted on scammers web sites.

Does anyone use DNS verification tools. I really dont know where to start

I use openDNS but i'm worried about software that can intercept your traffic or click on cloaking links or accidentally install malware which redirects queries.

You don't have to worry about DNS hijacking unless you willingly install malware. Read the What security steps should I take? in the Mac Virus/Malware FAQ for steps to prevent introduction of malware, including DNS hijackers.
