I am going to buy a used 5 for my wife (she has a 4S) - I have a black 5 - if I want to make sure I am getting a clean ESN unit, would I be able to insert my SIM from my 5 into the prospective phone? Would it then work on my number?

Sorry for what may seem to be an easy question, but I have been with Verizon for a long time and my 5 is the first time I have dealt with SIM cards.

Thanks in advance!

I've found the 5 I want (I think) - I just want to make sure the phone has a clean ESN and if I can confirm that fact via the SIM in my current 5.

Thanks though

Swappa.com is pretty accurate.

Awesome! Just checked my Verizon iPhone 5 (using on my AT&T account), and it appears to have found my device by IMEI. Info looks good...this could come in handy in the future. Thanks for posting.

But we still don't know if a SIM from one iPhone 5 will automatically work in another 5 in order to determine whether the ESN is clean

Nevermind - didn't see that you could check ESN status on swappa
