How to check if both fans are working?

I'd like to check if both of my fans are working properly because lately my temps have been getting higher than normal. Its probably not the fans but I'd like to check anyway. Is is possible to check if they are both working without opening the bottom? I've opened it up before to clean it out but I feel like opening it while having the computer on just to check the fans is unnecessary.

Checked istat which said they are working but is this reliable enough to go by?

iStat Pro will show you the speed of the two fans and SMC Fan Control allows you to control the fans.

yep...iStat told me my left fan was not working after having the logic board replaced. it's a great program.
