Is there any way to check if MBP is getting too little power from mains?

If your battery doesn't charge it's getting too little power.

Do be aware that it is possible for your computer to use more power than the charger can provide, so if you are maxing it out while plugged in the battery can still deplete, this only seems to happen in highly intensively games as far as I have seen but it could happen with other processes.

Why do you think its not getting enough juice?

I have two laptops in same table and both have external USB-powered HDD and both HDDs have been lately disappearing from Finder sidebar.

Sounds like the external drive/USB is having issues and not that the your laptop is getting insufficient electricity
[doublepost=1476882161][/doublepost]Did you try using the hard drive in a different usb port?

I only get this when trying to use cables that are too long. Using smaller bulkier cables works fine.

I'm wondering if the drives aren't getting enough "USB bus power", and that's the reason they're disappearing.

Other possibilities:
- loose cabling
- sleep/wake issues

If you drive does not have external power adapters, connect it via a powered USB Hub that support at least a 2 Amp power supply. Let that power your drive.
