Hello,

I am looking to buy soon an 27'inch iMac i7 780M from a guy on the forums.
How can i see if the mac is not stolen or if it is the real deal?
I am scared the mac might be fake an after 1 weeks it "drops".

Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Thank you!

Take the screen off and check to see if it is full of cream cheese. I was scammed like that once but luckily my friends were there and had brought bagels..

I'd suggest get the serial number and call Apple -- perhaps before purchasing the iMac. If you explain you're buying it used and just want to make sure it hasn't been reported as stolen. They may also be able to advise if it's had previous repairs.

Why people on MR feel the need to be unhelpful smartasses is beyond me.

As far as I lnow, Apple does not keep record of reported stolen goods so there's no way of verifying if it's stolen or not.

Inane comment≠pretty funny

I'd agree that:

inane comment + no help ≠pretty funny

But...

inane comment + help = pretty funny

So, in that vein. Anyone can bring bagels, kudos to the person that brings the smoked salmon.

"Other than the Find My iPhone and Find My Mac apps, there is no other Apple service that finds, tracks, or otherwise flags your device for you." http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT2526

But there are some third party companies that claim to have databases that can be searched, google for "stolen computer serial number database".

The idea is that the device is packed, and the guy said i will be the first one to unpack it. It is still in the box. I've checked on (https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do) apple serial number and it appears as being in warranty until March 2015.
Are there any sites i can check it, or any physical aspects i should look at?

LE: also checked it on chipmunk: http://picz.ro/img/312877.jpg
This is the product: http://olx.ro/oferta/imac-27-i7-3-5...-gtx-780m-4gb-sigilat-ID2jshT.html#0de217d6f2

Hope i don't get warned for publicity

Thank you
