When printing from my iPad to my Lexmark printer the default printer tray is the envelope feeder. The only time I see an option to select a different paper tray (ie the main one) is when I am printing a PDF from within the mail app. Anywhere else this option does not exist. Any insights? Screenshots show print options when printing a PDF within Mail (including option to switch trays on the bottom) vs. printer options anywhere else (identical but missing the option to switch trays).

The printer usually wants you to load the MP feeder if the print job is a different paper size than what the tray is configured for. I would check the paper size settings on the printer for Tray 1 to make sure it’s set to letter and not configured for A4 or some other size (I don’t think the 312 has auto size sensing). You can check the guides on the tray and make sure the back and side are both on letter as well. Not sure about why a PDF would allow you to dynamically change the size of the output.

Settings > General > Language & Region

And make sure you have United States selected.
