with a new iPad on the way, I decided to purchase my first HD movie. I bought it at 1080p after changing the store preference, and it downloaded both a 1080p file and an SD file, and combined them into a single thumbnail in my movie library.
The first time I went to play them, it told me my computer probably couldn't handle 1080p (not surprising) and asked me if I wanted to play it anyway, or play the SD version. I said play the 1080p version, and it played fine. So far so good. The problem starts after I tried to play it again. This second time I selected "SD" so that I could see the difference. Since then, I have been unable to get iTunes to play the 1080p version of the movie. I have spent the last 20 minutes dinking around in iTunes and on google trying to find an answer to what should be stupidly simple.
What I have tried or know works
I can see both version in the file system, and can play them both in Quicktime.
Under Preferences > Playback, I have "prefer 1080p content" as the selected option. I have also tried turnthing this off and on with no effect
Going to the file system and opening the HD version in iTunes causes the SD version to play.
Any ideas how to get back to playing the 1080p?
Bonus question: When the movie is actually playing, I can't find a way to figure out which version is playing. I know it's the SD version because it is visually degraded. I have the HD version open in QT for comparison when I'm not sure. So how do you figure out which one iTunes is using?
