I meant to hit Option+Cmd to hide the side bar, instead I hit Cmd+shift that added over 300 listing to the "places" bar, is there a way to clean it up quickly? Instead of one at a time? any help would be greatly apprecited.

Just delete Library/Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plist, then relaunch Finder by opening a Terminal window and typing:

sudo killall Finder

Rather than playing in Terminal just hold down the Option Key while right clicking the Finder icon in the dock ~ Relaunch will be on the context menu.

That worked great, right click on finder while holding the option key made restarting finder simple. The last time made this mistake, took me 20 min to clean it up. I am glade I asked the question this time

thank you
